“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” Anais Nin
Although it feels like everyone around you is pregnant, that is not exactly the case. It is fascinating the way our mind filters and digests information, honing in on every pregnant woman. Don’t worry, your mind is not intentionally trying to make you feel bad, it’s actually just wanting to protect and keep you safe.
The relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind is both intricate and interesting. Our subconscious is always looking out for us. It processes a lot of information, all the time, so much so that the subconscious mind uses “rules” and “filters” to help evaluate what is important information and what isn’t. If something doesn’t measure up to the rule, it gets discarded or stored.
If it is important, you will be advised. Right now, having a baby and getting pregnant is what is relevant, so the subconscious mind is just letting you know. Unfortunately our subconscious mind does not judge or analyze the incoming information. That’s our job!
Hypnotherapy is an excellent tool that can work with your subconscious filters and thoughts. Sometimes the rules of the subconscious mind can be old and no longer serving us in a positive, protective way.
Some unhealthy thoughts:
- Pregnancy and birth are scary.
- I’m scared to get pregnant.
- I am not good enough.
- I don’t have control over my life.
- Other people have more power than me.
- I’m a failure.
- I am unlovable.
- I am not good enough.
These thoughts are the very beliefs that that impact our mind-body balance and the negative arousal we experience when we see a pregnant woman.
Hypnotherapy can help to uncover deeper beliefs about our body and self that aren’t actually our OWN beliefs, but those of our predecessor. Changing our deeper belief systems and creating an affirming foundation can ease the emotional pain surrounding infertility.
