Our minds and thoughts have a profound influence on our bodies. Recently I enrolled in a hypnosis certification course. Soon I will be able to call myself a Hypnotherapist. Far from the stereotypical lines like “you are getting sleepy,” hypnotherapy has been an amazing lesson. I experienced first- hand the impact of deep relaxation and guided visual imagery in a hypnotic trance.
Hypnosis is an amazing mind-body tool that has been used for centuries for a variety of conditions both physical and mental. It is an internal tool you can access at your own discretion to help you relax and alter your underlying deep rooted subconscious associations and beliefs. Did you know that we only use 10% of our conscious mind on a daily basis? It’s the 90% of our subconscious mind that leads and guides us. When I found this out, I was in shock. It helped me understand how hypnosis can help us shift negative association and create a more positive mental and physical space.
Try it out:
Imagine you are staring at a tiny dot across the room. As you do this, your eyes start to close and they become very heavy. After you close your eyes, you begin to relax even deeper. As we become more relaxed, our brain waves actually change. When this happens, that voice in your head that is judging criticizing, and rejecting of suggestions and new ideas quiets down. There is actually a name for this part of the conscious mind; it’s called “The Critical Factor.”
Hypnosis bypasses the critical factor allowing suggestions into the subconscious mind where real and immediate changes can be made. The subconscious mind then accepts the suggestions and creates the behavior changes or body changes in order to achieve the given suggestion. In hypnosis the body and mind are both suggestible, operating together as one. Hypnosis is a natural phenomenon that occurs every day, many times a day. Wherever you are on your journey you can tap into the power of hypnosis.
Hypnosis for fertility:
Hypnosis can be used at any stage of the fertility journey. It is best known for helping in the final stages with hypo birthing but is also instrumental for helping women conceive faster. Scientific studies have documented successful use of hypnotherapy for women undergoing IVF. In Israel (where IVF is covered under public healthcare), one study uncovered the women who participated in the hypnosis process actually conceived faster. I don’t doubt this for a second. Through hypnosis our minds are open to the suggestions and ideas being presented. We absorb and hear the suggestions on a different level as we are deeply relaxed. If we are told that you are fertile and the embryo is beginning to implant in your healthy uterus, our bodies will respond to create this reality.
